DO I NEED A WDO INSPECTION IN NEW YORK?
New York has its fair share of pests. From disease-carrying rats and cockroaches to bed bugs that steal a good night’s sleep, there are plenty of reasons to have a pest control expert close by. But, are termites something you need to worry about? Do you need to get a WDO inspection in New York? At Clearview Environmental Sciences, we’re here to answer your questions so you can keep your home and family safe.
WHAT IS A WDO INSPECTION?
To understand whether or not you need a WDO inspection, let’s first explore what it is. A WDO inspection is, simply put, a termite inspection. WDO stands for “wood-destroying organism,” which is a perfect description of what termites really are. These tiny pests will swarm homes and can cost you thousands of dollars in damage if left alone. A termite inspection is the first step to eliminating these destructive bugs.
WHAT KIND OF TERMITES LIVE IN NEW YORK?
Termites live in every state in the US except for Alaska. This means that your home in New York could still be at risk for a termite infestation. While the state isn’t overrun with multiple species of these bugs, the Eastern subterranean termite is the only type of termite indigenous to the area.
As their name states, these termites will find an area underground to be near moist wood to colonize and feed on. These termites are distinct in their nesting habits as they build mud tubes that are used to access walls, doors, or trim to find their way deeper into your home.
ARE TERMITES A MAJOR PROBLEM IN MY AREA?
In short, yes, termites are common in New York. It’s estimated that 20% of homes have been, or will be, attacked by termites. It’s most common for colonies to swarm between March and June on humid days after rain. These warm days make for ideal conditions for termites to find a new home and begin feeding.
HOW CAN I TELL IF I HAVE A TERMITE PROBLEM?
If you have a termite problem, you’re not likely to know unless you know what to look for. This is because you won’t see these tiny bugs out crawling around. After all, they live underground as previously stated. However, you can learn how to identify if you do have an infestation. If you see any of the following, you likely have termites.
- Tiny holes in drywall
- Peeling paint that looks like water damage
- Discolored or drooping walls
- Hollowed or damaged wood
- Mud tubes
- Loose floorboards
- Blistering in wood flooring
SO, DO I NEED A WDO INSPECTION?
If you believe that you have a termite problem, yes, you do need a WDO inspection. Our termite experts will come to your home and inspect to see if you do have an infestation. An inspector will take a thorough look around your home to see if there are visible signs of broken termite wings, damaged wood, termite droppings, and mud tubes. The most telling sign of a termite problem is mud tubes running up the side of your home’s foundation to the wood siding.

HOW OFTEN YOU SHOULD SCHEDULE PEST CONTROL IN MANHATTAN
If you live in Manhattan, you already live in cramped quarters. This proximity compounds the torture and ick associated with interloping, hair-raising critters. At best, they’re a nuisance. At worst, they’re a threat to your happiness, health, and property. That’s why conducting pest control in Manhattan is so important. Luckily, at Clearview Environmental Sciences, our 20 years of experience and science-driven solutions make us New York City’s premier exterminator.
Here’s how often you should schedule pest control in NYC:
Why do you need pest control?
When considering pest control in Manhattan, it’s important to understand what pests mean for you and your home. Some pests don’t pose a real danger and are mostly a nuisance.
However, in your home, a bothersome pest undermines the happiness and reprieve it’s supposed to provide. An infestation turns your home into a warzone, which has detrimental consequences on every other aspect of your life.
More importantly, when living in close quarters, there are multitudes of pests that pose severe hazards to your health. Failing to address these infestations immediately amplifies the damage they do to your wellbeing and home.
Many pests spread disease, cause significant property damage, and exacerbate existing health conditions. They endanger everyone. Regular pest control means nipping infestations in the bud. Particularly in apartment buildings, infestations spread like wildfire.
Nuisances
There are many pests that are more agitating than anything. These include:
- Most spiders
- Stink bugs
- Earwigs
These pests are unlikely to cause physical harm. However, they still wreak havoc on your peace of mind and contentment.
Harmful pests
Many pests that pose a severe detriment to your health and the structural integrity of your home. These include:
- Mosquitos and ticks: They transmit devastating diseases directly into your system.
- Cockroaches: They contaminate food and can spread diseases. They can also cause and exacerbate asthma.
- House flies: They transmit Salmonella, E. coli, Shigella, and Vibrio.
- Bed bugs
- Termites: It’s estimated they cause $5 billion of damage annually.
- Raccoons: Extremely aggressive, raccoons are unafraid to attack and often seek shelter in buildings. Their bites spread diseases.
That’s just scratching the surface. With Clearview Environmental Sciences, we guarantee to eliminate pests, reform your home, and redeliver your health and happiness.
How often should you schedule it?
When it comes to pest control in Manhattan, the recommended frequency is relative. Firstly, many infestations require multiple treatments to ensure the pest and its eggs are exterminated.
The amount of time it takes is contingent on the severity of the infestation and the structure of your home. Particularly in apartments, once there’s an infestation, it takes exponentially more visits to adequately resolve.
This is a continuous process. There’s no one-time solution. Having pest controls conducted more often reduces how extensively you’ll need it done in the long run. If you conduct pest controls just once or twice a year, the likelihood of severe infestation skyrockets.
It’s recommended to conduct a pest control every quarter, or every 2 to 3 months. Many treatments lose efficacy after two months. This means after two months, your home will be an inviting habitat for critters again.
Also, pests are often seasonal. Each season, you’ll need to take different preventive and protective measures to combat seasonal pests. This is another reason quarterly pest control is imperative.

5 SIGNS YOU NEED TO HIRE A MICE EXTERMINATOR IN NYC
Pests can have a major impact on your home. Whether they’re contaminating your food, destroying your home, or spreading disease, there are a plethora of reasons to ensure that a few mice don’t make your home theirs and lead to an infestation. With the help of a mice exterminator in NYC, you can eliminate a nuisance before it grows into a major problem. If you’re unsure about whether or not you have a problem, our team at Clearview Environmental Science has put together five warning signs that you need an exterminator.
YOU FIND DROPPINGS
Droppings are a sure sign that you have one or more mice that have entered your home. The amount of droppings is a direct reflection of the size of the problem you have on your hands. A few droppings likely mean no more than a few, but a large amount means that you have an infestation that could have spread throughout your home. It’s important that you don’t disregard a few droppings as a one-time event as mice are likely to return to a food source and bring a few of their closest friends with them.
Droppings will start out as brown then turn gray as they start to age. You’re most likely to notice them in areas where you keep food as well as inside drawers, cabinets, and under sinks. Call a mice exterminator at the first sign of droppings.
YOU HEAR SCRATCHING NOISES
Even if you don’t notice droppings in potential trouble areas, scratching inside your walls at night can be a sign that you have a mouse. Mice are nocturnal animals and will try to burrow and nest in your walls or ceiling at night. This means that you won’t necessarily hear activity during the day, but you could notice it as you’re locking up the house at night or lying in bed trying to sleep. In addition to scratching noises, you might hear gnawing or squeaking.
THERE ARE FOUL SMELLS
Mice smell terrible. They bring with them a strong, pungent smell that’s easily identifiable. Similar to how dogs will mark their territory several times on a walk, mice mark their territory with their own unique smell. This can also be a signal to their horde that they’ve established a safe place with a solid food source for them to set up camp.
In addition to the natural musk that mice carry on them at all times, you might also smell a dead mouse as they can die inside your walls while foraging for food. If you suspect you have mice, pay close attention to the behavior of your pets, especially cats, because they’ll be curious about the smell, and start sniffing about can be an indicator that you have a problem.
YOU FIND TRACKS
Mice are able to wedge themselves through tiny spaces. Part of what lets them do this is their greasy body. You might notice greasy marks against walls, doors, and even the floor as evidence of mice working their way around your home.
If you suspect you might have mice but aren’t sure, you can leave some flour on the floor overnight in areas where you see tracks. The mice will walk through the flour and leave footprints. This will not only confirm your suspicions about mice, but you can follow the floury footprints to find where they’re hiding.
YOU FIND RANDOM DAMAGE
Mice will chew just about anything. This goes beyond your walls and includes electrical wiring. Frayed wires behind your TV or computer desk are a strong indicator of a mouse problem. Finicky light switches could mean that you have some electrical damage inside your wall that’s been caused by mice as well. Damaged furniture, toys, and clothing are also signs that you’re in need of a mice exterminator.
SCHEDULE AN INSPECTION
Don’t wait, call Clearview Environmental Science today if you’re worried about a mouse infestation. The worst thing that can happen if you don’t have one is that we give you the good news that there are no mice. CALL US (347)224-2581 or send a message to schedule an inspection today.
